1. Overview of Cirrus Logic CS40L25

Cirrus Logic CS40L25 and CS40L25B are currently the industry's leading autonomous working haptic signal generators, integrating a high-performance haptic driver, a Halo Core™ digital signal processor and a drive boost converter. Based on the resonant frequency of the motor, these devices can drive high-performance linear resonance exciters (LRA) and voice coil motors (VCM), thereby enhancing the user experience with unique haptic waveforms.

The haptic kits for these devices include LRA resonance frequency calibration at the system level; output voltage and current monitoring software that triggers haptic actuator impedance and resonance frequency reports; pre-stored haptics that can be triggered by I2C/GPI for gaming applications and user interface events Waveform; and flexible haptic waveform generation, which can be triggered by GPI to replace the home button or side button.

Cirrus Logic's haptic technology also has a closed-loop algorithm that maximizes the effectiveness of LRA. This software approach enables a powerful and consistent tactile sensation, protects the LRA from over-travel use, and provides the overall long-term reliability of the LRA.

3. Target Application

Cirrus Logic’s new haptic solution can help create situation-aware “virtual” buttons on almost any surface. By eliminating physical buttons, product designers can achieve a cleaner and more stylish industrial design aesthetic. Many smartphone designers are leading the evolution of this behind-the-scenes design, adding tactile feedback solutions by replacing peripheral key functions. Cars, PCs, wearable devices and game consoles are also going beyond traditional button interfaces, using non-mechanical tactile feedback.

CS40L25 / CS40L25B provides real-time control of LRA and VCM for virtual buttons and Audio 2 Haptics applications. Target applications include smartphones, wearable devices, PCs, games and in-vehicles.
